Video relay service (VRS) is a free, subscription-based service for individuals who use sign language and have videophones, smartphones, or computers with video communication capabilities. For outgoing calls, the subscriber contacts a VRS interpreter, who places the call and serves as an intermediary between the subscriber and the person using a standard voice telephone. The interpreter conveys the subscriber’s signed message to the telephone user and signs the telephone user’s spoken responses back to the subscriber.
